With Lasers it seems that leaks, cracks, and parts of the rail missing are signs of a rough life and a boat that could potentially
break apart at any time. That's why when Laser shopping, it is so important to make sure that the joints between the deck
and hull, especially the mast step area are strong and sealed. The stiffness of the deck is also very important because it
will tell you if the boat is beginning to de-laminate and getting exponentially weaker.
The pictures below are closeups of all the areas I would look closely at myself if buying a boat. I'm happy to tell you
that I was impressed that this boat is still in excellent shape structurally, and should perform just as well as a boat from
the 90s or newer. The deck is solid throughout. I found NO soft spots which is something you look for when buying a boat
you expect to perform and plan to take care of.
Dry, stiff, pre-owned Lasers are tough to come by so this one is a rare opportunity. Of course, this is only my opinion,
but if you were my own brother, I'd tell you to buy this Laser. -- Tim Fitzgerald
Below you can see the boat's equipment and history. This comes straight from the Rocky, the owner, hence the first person.

* Sail # 121018, Hull # ZIDC 1018 D585
* White hull and deck
* inspection port with bag in the cockpit area
* Harken ratchet block
* Silva Laser Racing Compass (purchased in 1991)
* centerboard-tiller padded bag
* canvass padded hull cover is in good shape (purchased in 1991)
* acrylic deck cover that is junk in its current state. The material is in good shape but It needs to be completely
re-sewn (stitching disintegrated) and is a faded blue.

* I sailed it in 1985 for our Wednesday night races and some racing in 1991 and very little in-between
* It has always been kept upright on deck-hull lip supports and care has been taken not to damage the bottom when
beached.
* From 1991 to 2005, it was kept in hull and deck covers and also stowed in the garage for a couple of years.
* The sail is original but still in good condition. I would buy a new sail to seriously race but one of the last times
I sailed the boat was years ago in Districts and finished third with the original sail.

This picture shows the rear corners of the boat where lasers can get banged up from bumpin' docks or other boats or what have
you. The gunwhale all around this boat is in great condtion, hence no leaks and no chips or chunks missing.

I pressed very hard with my hands all around the mast step and in the middle of the deck where Lasers will typically show
if they've got delamination problems. This area is my biggest concern when looking at a boat because so much pressure is
applied to the mast step. This boat is extremely solid. If you've ever felt a new Laser, it feels like that.

The centerboard trunk is also a tough repair if its in bad shape. The joint here at the deck where they join the hull to
the deck is still strong and watertight. Notice there are no cracks, even surface cracks in where the centerboard trunk molds
into the deck.

The above picture shows water in the mast step. This is key because it tells us that the mast step does not leak (water or
air). Boats with trouble in this area require a 300$ repair kit or someone with exceptional skills with fiberglass. Also,
notice that the gelcoat has no cracks in it which shows the mast step is supporting the mast just like it should.



Aside from some mud in the cockpit, This one is in great shape. The corners of the cockpit, and the centerline are places
where boats can typically crack. This boat is in better shape than mine -Tim

From these several pictures you get a good idea of the condition of the bottom. Basically it's a bit dirty because I didnt
wash it for its photo shoot, but i can't see a scratch on it in any of these pictures. It's solid and in great shape.
